Tower
Pen, Gouache on Paper (29.21 x 29.21 cm)

Tower is an image of the mineshaft that my grandad used to work in. The workers from Tower Colliery had a major role in the 1984 Miners Strike. His fight against mine closures and the fall of industrial communities is what he is remembered for. The board to the right is a list of miners who tragically died in an explosion in 1962, which my grandfather was witness to. The artwork was made to honour the fight for better work conditions by my grandad and the miners.

The installation Home is an abstract piece of work surrounding the piece ต้นโพธิ์, which is an continuation of my reflection upon my Thai roots. Due to Covid-19 pandemic preventing me from flying back to Thailand. The installation of colourful separated watercolour papers suspended from the ceiling, exhibits my blurred yet tranquil vision of Thailand. It captures my emotions and my fragmented perception of Thailand that I so dearly miss.

Water

This series aims to reflect the significance and importance of coastal life. The Mediterranean Sea has been home to many generations of my family. We grew up to develop an emotional connection with the sea, as well as continuing our family’s tradition of settling by different coasts at every place we’ve called home. The concealed faces further represent my family’s transience through inhabiting between new waters.

Kaaba
Oil and acrylic on canvas (25 x 35cm)

Every year, more than 2 million muslims perform the Hajj, a mandatory pilgrimage that must be completed once during a muslim’s lifetime. My intention through this piece was to capture the emotional and spiritual moment of when I first visited the Kaaba in Mecca, the holiest and most sacred Islamic site. I intended to capture this unforgettable memory that represents peace and tranquility.

overdose
Ceramics ( 22 Pills, Each Pill: 19 cm Diameter, 5 cm Height)

The large-scale, pop-art-inspired ceramic pill installation, exemplifies my experiences with health and medication that have caused adverse effects on me. Some of the side effects of the medication include bruising, fatigue, hair loss, and nausea. Through the use of vivid colors and exaggerated scale, I hope to create an unnatural scene to reiterate the overwhelming burden of being under constant medication.

Nonno (Grandfather)
Mixed Media, Paper & Digital Collage (25.5 x 52.5 cm )

Nonno is a mixed media collage of my grandfather watering our family home in Cavaglia, Switzerland, the small town he was born in. Nonno has been losing his sight gradually over the last few years. Despite his visual impairment, his joyfulness has taught me to not let my own imparities keep me from enjoying special moments in life.
